Title : BUCKLING ANALYSIS OF THE ISOTROPIC AND ORTHOTROPIC STIFFENED PANEL
Duration : Jan 2015 - April 2015
Description : Buckling of simply supported square isotropic and orthotropic plates with multi stiffeners is addressed herein. An approximate, semi-analytical model for such plates subjected to in-plane loading is derived. The optimal buckling load of simply supported stiffened panels with changing location and number of stiffener is predicted using theoretical formulation.
In this optimization, the design variables were the plate thickness, number and locations of stiffeners. In-plane loading were considered; namely, uniaxial. Based on the model studies, the total increase in the buckling load due to the presence of stiffeners can reach up to 5 times in uniaxial loading. Several other imperative findings are identified based upon the various parameters influencing the buckling behavior. Guidelines for the optimal stiffeners configurations proportioning are developed.

Description : Wind energy can be generated using windmills that provide mechanical energy that is used directly on machinery e.g. water pump and grinder; or wind turbines that provide electrical energy. The main objective of our project was to design a windmill and therefore our scope will be limited to a windmill for water pumping water.
Windmills are classified into two main types based on the axis about which they rotate. Horizontal axis have the main rotor shaft running horizontally and if the rotor must be oriented in the direction of the wind, a wind vane is coupled with a servomotor. Vertical axis have the mainrotor shaft running vertically.
The rotor assembly can have two or more blades depending on thedesired solidity.
