Title  : Study of Accelerometer Chip

Description  :
This study project deals with a system that gives the velocity, acceleration of a moving body at different instants of time during a marathon. For this purpose there are many manual methods as well as advanced methods. Both the manual methods and advanced methods have their own advantages and disadvantages like accuracy is less in manual methods whereas the cost of equipment that use the advanced methods is very high.


The main objective of this project is to reduce the cost of the system with accurate output.

For this purpose we can use different types of sensors like force sensors, accelerometer sensors. The study of Accelerometer chip which has a wide range of applications was our prior choice. Use of accelerometer chip requires a micro-controller which can be interfaced through various methods like I2C interface, ISP, through GPIO pins etc which process the data from the sensor using g-calculations.

RESPONSIBILITIES  :
** Basic study on the requirement like various positions in running during the marathon.
** Study on working of existing Accelerometer chip which is presently used to Railway Signaling.
** Study on G-calculations.
** Software development of the Accelerometer Chip.
** Tested the communication process of the Accelerometer Chip during the tracking of the train.
** Studied communication process such as I2C, ISP.
** Relevant conclusions are made after the study of chip regarding the suitability of chip.

Description  :
This project deals with a monitoring system that gives heart rate of a patient. Generally for this purpose we use medical devices like Electrocardiography(ECG), portable device or any other commercial heart rate monitor which normally consisting of a chest strap with electrodes. Despite of its accuracy, somehow it is costly, involve many clinical settings and attention of medical experts for continuous monitoring. For a patient who has already diagnosed with a fatal heart disease, their heart must be monitored continuously. This can be done using a technique called Photoplethysmography (PPG).

In this technique a light source is used to observe the electrical pulses produced during the functioning of heart which gives the heart rate. This electrical signal is processed using 8052 micro controller to determine the heart beat rate per minute. Then it sends SMS alert to the mobile phone of medical experts or patient’s family members, or relatives via SMS. Thus, doctors can monitor, diagnose and also alert the family members to quickly attend the patient when fluctuations of heart are abnormal.
