Description : Actinomycetes are gram positive bacteria and are exceptionally prolific source of secondary metabolites, accounting for more than half of microbial antibiotics. E.g: Streptomycin. Screening of Actinomycetes for Antibacterial and antifungal activity.
Evaluation of Antioxidants for Maintaining Biodiesel Stability and Checking Antimicrobial Property.

Description : The Biodiesel produced from Pongamia Pinnata oil was evaluated for its stability by addition of Antioxidants extracted from plant and organism sources. Different parameters of biodiesel such as Viscosity, Density and Acid value were measured. The antioxidants used to maintain Biodiesel stability, were also evaluated for antimicrobial activity.
Optimization, Partial Purification And Mutational Studies Of Lipase From Aspergillus Spp
Team size : 4 members
Description : Optimization of physicochemical parameters like temperature, pH, Carbon and nitrogen sources was carried out. Partial purification of lipase by ammonium sulphate followed by dialysis and solid state fermentation was carried out. The enzyme as the quantities produced by wild strains are usually too low, hence both qualitative improvement and quantitative enhancement by UV and Chemical mutation was carried out.
Opted Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU) as a elective. Title of the research work : “Production, Purification and Characterization of Fungal Lipases and Its Potential Application in Detergent Industry.”
